What is a vehicle hoist?

Mobility vehicle hoists are essential accessibility solutions designed to facilitate easy entry and exit for individuals with physical disabilities using wheelchairs or mobility aids. Vehicle hoists are mechanical devices installed in vehicles, typically minivans or larger cars, to lift and stow a wheelchair or scooter into the vehicle's interior.

These hoists eliminate the need for manual lifting, ensuring a smoother and less strenuous process for individuals and caregivers. Mobility vehicle hoists and ramps contribute to creating a more inclusive and accessible transportation environment, allowing individuals with mobility challenges to enjoy the convenience and freedom of traveling in their own vehicles.

What is the process of installing a vehicle hoist in my vehicle?

1. Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment

We’ll begin by sending you a personalized quote based on your vehicle and wheelchair/scooter setup. If you have NDIS funding, we’ll organise an Occupational Therapist Vehicle Modification Assessment to verify and allocate funds for the modifications. In most cases, vehicle modifications come under the Capital Supports budget, which means your quote will also require formal approval. If you don’t have NDIS funding, we’ll discuss alternative payment options.

2. Book an Appointment

We will then schedule a time with you to assess your vehicle to make sure the hoist will be effective for you. In this initial meeting we will discuss placement, left or right, we will provide our professional recommendation, while also taking your preferences into account. This is also when we will show you the demonstration vehicle to ensure you are happy with the product before you purchase it.

3. Ordering the Parts

If you choose to move forward, we’ll order the required parts. These typically take around 2 weeks to arrive, as they are sourced from Europe.

4. Installation and Engineering

Once the parts arrive we will contact you to arrange the installation. This usually takes 2 - 3 days. Some vehicle modifications are required to be checked by an engineer to ensure the modifications meet the safety standards, if this is the case this will be done in this 2 - 3 days.
